Pantone Color of the Year 2022
Introducing PANTONE 17-3938 - Very Peri
Its Courageous Presence Encourages Personal Inventiveness And Creativity.
2022 is the year of Very Peri, a periwinkle purple with energetic red undertones! I’m very excited about this color because it’s not a purple that’s seen a lot. It’s whimsical and elegant. Pretty and classic. Timeless and trendy. It represents creativity and transformation, as the last couple of years have shaken up our world and shown us how we can be better, more innovative, and seeking creative solutions to real life issues.
Very-Peri in Pop Culture
Although Very-Peri is the color of 2022, when I first saw the color, one movie scene in particular popped in my head: Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality after her spa treatments. Hello Gracie Lou Freebush! The color is used a lot in the movie to show her transformation from gruff FBI agent to beauty queen, as well as an extended palette of pinks.
Various shades of pink, lavender, and magenta are used for Sandra in the entire movie to establish her journey from tough FBI agent to feminine heroine. The only other color she wears is black when she’s at work.
Very-Perilicious
Last year’s Pantone colors of the year, grey and yellow, represented cautious optimism, a ray of hopeful light after a traumatic 2020. It allowed us to envision what the world might look like when the new normal sets in. It exposed some ugly truths, showed us our weaknesses, and let us ponder what to do about it all.
2022 is a transformative year, where hopefully we’ve taken what we’ve learned in 2020 and 2021, and apply it to our lives. While 2022 is sure to be a challenging year, I feel like there’s more hope to look forward to and freedom to dream a bit bigger.
Purple is traditionally associated with wisdom, creativity, and magic/spirituality, but also mystery, poison, and darkness. Very Peri however, is a happy and hopeful shade in the purple family.
